When Greg Wickham’s wife passed away unexpectedly, he became a single father to his 6-year-old daughter, Aria. Overnight, Greg was faced with a long list of parenting duties—including doing his daughter’s hair, something he had never attempted before.
“The first ponytail was a disaster,” Greg laughed. “It looked like a bird’s nest held together by hopes and prayers.”
Determined not to let his daughter feel neglected, Greg turned to YouTube tutorials and learned how to braid, twist, and even style buns. Over time, he got so good at it that other dads started asking for advice.

Now, Greg runs a free “Dad & Daughter Hair Workshop” at his local community center, teaching other single dads how to bond with their daughters through simple hairstyling skills.
“It’s not about the perfect braid,” he says. “It’s about showing up and making your child feel seen and cared for.”
Aria, now 8, beams with pride every time her dad brushes her hair.
“He’s the best daddy ever,” she says. “And he does the best braids.”
Greg’s journey is a beautiful reminder that love, effort, and presence are what truly define great parenting.
